CBD Flowers

For a long time, THC has been the superstar of the hemp world, but now CBD is taking the hemp community by storm. Read on to learn all about THC-free CBD flowers, including how they’re produced and the best CBD-rich strains from RQS.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabinoid produced mainly within the trichomes of the hemp plant. This compound has gained great popularity in recent years, as an increasing number of studies reveal its interesting characteristics. CBD is non-psychoactive, making it more legally accepted worldwide, even in places where THC consumption is prohibited.

CBD-rich hemp goes by several names, and in this article we will use the terms “THC-free hemp”, “CBD flowers” and “CBD buds” interchangeably.

ARE CBD FLOWERS LEGAL?

Most probably yes. Although there are no global regulations on CBD buds, this compound is legal in Europe as long as it contains less than 0.2% THC. In the United States this limit is slightly higher, at 0.3% THC.

HOW ARE CBD FLOWERS PRODUCED?

Just as hemp plants have been bred and selected for decades to produce large amounts of THC, today there are strains that produce high levels of CBD and virtually zero levels of THC. These new strains allow growers to plant hemp or CBD-rich hemp even in countries where it is illegal to grow THC-rich hemp. With these new strains, hemp users who want CBD, but don’t want to get high, can smoke or vape these flowers as they would THC-laden buds.

When growing CBD-rich strains, the most important factor to consider is genetics. The plant’s enzymes will determine whether it will contain high levels of THC or CBD. To improve the cannabidiol levels of a strain, growers generally cross a CBD-rich strain with a low-THC strain.

HOW TO CONSUME CBD BUDS

The method of consumption chosen to enjoy THC-free hemp depends mainly on your personal preferences. There is only one fundamental thing to remember: CBD flowers need to be heated and “activated” in a process called decarboxylation. This process occurs naturally when smoking or vaporizing; but, with hemp edibles, it is necessary to decarboxylate the buds beforehand in the oven.

HOW MUCH CANNABIDIOL IS IN 1 GRAM OF CBD FLOWERS?

Calculating the amount of cannabidiol in CBD flowers is a bit more complex than calculating the amount of CBD oil or CBD capsules.

Generally speaking, 1 gram of CBD buds contains between 100 and 200mg of CBD. To calculate the content of the particular strain you are consuming, you should look at the percentage of CBD indicated on the strain.

FIND THE BEST CBD:THC RATIO FOR YOU

To find out what works best for you, it’s helpful to know a little about CBD:THC ratios and why they are important.

If a product has a CBD:THC ratio of 10:1, it means it contains 10 times more CBD than THC. With this ratio, you will be able to enjoy the cannabidiol effects, with hardly any psychoactive effects.

On the other hand, a plant with a 1:1 ratio contains equal amounts of CBD and THC. This strain would cause a considerably psychoactive high, but less intense than the high caused by a THC-rich strain.

Obviously, there are many other ratios and none is better than another. The best ratio for you depends on your personal preferences and desired effects. But keep in mind that the CBD:THC ratio is not the only factor that determines how a strain makes you feel, as every body is different. It’s best to start with small doses and work your way up, to ensure you feel comfortable and can maintain control of the experience.
